Javier Bosma, the fourth among six siblings, was introduced to volleyball at the age of 14 in Roses, Girona, a small town along the north Mediterranean Coast. Back then, volleyball was an outdoor sport played on concrete surfaces using hard balls and flat sports shoes. At 18, he made the move to Barcelona to join the top-tier Spanish league, playing for various teams such as Andorra, Almería, and Gijón until 1994.
His initiation into beach volleyball occurred in 1991 during the First National Tour. For a span of 16 years (1991-2006), he showcased his skills at the highest level, partnering with 12 different players across 155 International Tournaments . He is a three-time Olympian, who won the silver medal in the men’s beach volleyball tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens together with Pablo Herrera.
Since his retirement in 2006, he has gained enormous experience in training both players and coaches at all levels. He conducted Beach Volleyball clinics for coaches under the National Federation; in 2011, Bosma received an opportunity to prepare Spanish teams for the Continental Cup, a qualifier for the London 2012 Olympics.
Subsequently, he established the inaugural annual Youth Beach Volleyball Program at the University of Alicante (2012-2016). This program attracted students from various Spanish cities, offering an intensive sports curriculum within an academic setting. The program yielded multiple medals in Spanish championships and secured a silver medal in the European Women’s Championship U-22.In 2013, Bosma became an integral part of the first online Beach Volleyball Course organized by the Spanish National Federation, serving as the primary instructor in both 2013 and 2014. He also took on the role of Head Coach for the Youth National Teams from 2013 to 2016. He also provided advisory support to the national teams of Morocco and Colombia, aiding their qualification efforts for Rio 2016.
